Bradford James
Dj Since 1988
DOB: August 16, 1971
A
music collector since early childhood, Bradford James is the co-founder
of SEED Recordings music production team in New York
City. He is an active dj and producer who’s played parties
all over the east coast USA, Canada, and Holland.
He first started Dj’ing when he was 15 years old, his influences
were Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash, Jam Master Jay, Afrika Bambaata
to name a few. He grew up listening to early Disco, Hip Hop, and
Freestyle; the basis of undergound dance music of today. His mother
was a disco cover band singer, his grandfather played the drums
in a jazz/funk band.
From the start of his career he played private house parties till
he got his first residency at a popular hip hop club in Providence,
RI called Club Confetti. From there he played every spot in the
city and state.
In 1992 He was also the dj for a hip hop group called “B-Side
of Soul”. The group opened up for Hip Hop shows in RI and
Boston. A Tribe Called Quest meets Nice & Smooth with a Run
DMC appeal was the flava this group brought to life. After two years
doing small shows the group split and went there seperate ways.
In 1994, He was getting fed up with the direction the hip hop sound
was going so decided he needed a change. His friend and later on
production partner David Paglia turned him onto playing House Music.
He always listend to house music was but never seeked to play it.
This was a start to a new begining.
In 1997 he linked up with a party crew called Volume Productions
headed by DJ Venom. This crew was and still is one of the leading
forces in the New England underground party scene. He played parties
all over the East Coast till 2000. As a featured guest playing events
with heavyweights Angel Alanis, Joeski & Onionz, Atomic Babies
to name a few.
In 2001 He and friend David Paglia started to make music under
the name Groovekontrol. They produced melodic deep sexy house music.
They released there first E.P. called Groove E.P. as a white label
at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. The release featured a
Sade Bootleg of “Mr. Wrong” which got high recognition
from dj’s Wamdue Project, Terry Lee Brown Jr., Roy Davis Jr,
Danny Tenaglia, Ron Carroll, Mazi, Hipolito Sanchez, and Dj Urban.
In the summer of 2002, he got the break we was searching for and
was a featured guest at a party on the rooftop of the Legendary
Club Shelter in New York City. This was a special day because it
was actually his birthday, and to have New York City Legend Timmy
Regisford, and Dj Spinna playing at the same event was inspirational.
In 2003 He was a featured guest at the Movement Festival formerly
the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF). This was his first
time in Detroit and didnt really know what to expect. When he arrived
he saw a beautiful scenery of music lovers from all over the world.
Met and dj’ed with some of the top producers of today. By
the way Detroit knows how to get down, if you dont know, better
ask somebody! It is defintely a festival in the USA that doesnt
get enough press. Its defintely not a “Rock City”!
Up to date as a producer, Bradford has released a white label under
the name Groovekontrol. He has recently finished a remix for DJ
Hali (Poundhouse Toronto) featuring vocalist Sherry St Germain called
Moving Day. The track has been featured on ZED TV (Canada Television).
He is currently in the studio working on new projects with several
local up and coming artists/muscians in the Boston/New York City/Detroit
area. He is about to officially launch his own independent label
called Subway Soul, a Boston based label to showcase all the incredible
talents in the Boston Metro area. He recently linked up with the
Boston House Legend Dj Bruno on a future project and has recently
been added as a resident of the ONLY real house event in the city
called Utopia.
His online mixsets are featured on sites such as undergroundhouse.net,
deephouse.net, gallerysound.com and his own site seed-nyc.com. He
co-hosts a popular weekly radio program called Samoset Sessionz
on netmusique.com which airs “LIVE” every wednsday night
from 8-10pm (est). The show is two years into existance and has
become a signature show on the housemusique channel. Netmusique
started as a pioneer at the beginning of the Internet Radio revolution.

Attached is a list of past events from 1990 to present. He is eager
to add your event to his resume’...
