Sometimes I ask myself why the FUCK am I back in the house scene? When I then see all different types of people dancing and enjoying themselves to my music, I realize I didn’t finish what I started years ago. Utopia was supposed to be about giving everyone in the house scene in Boston a chance to shine. It wasn’t just about me. It was about building a strong community of music lovers that would hopefully last for generations. Of course, the obvious bullshit happened (jealousy, immaturity, greed, etc.) I left the house scene in 1998, but every once in a while, I would throw a birthday party. I would notice all the of these house heads (whom I didn’t invite) showing up. I couldn’t understand why. I dissed the house scene because I wasn’t making money and I lost a lot of money trying to keep it alive. I really felt like the Boston house scene didn’t understand the shit I was going through to keep the scene alive.

1992: Utopia @ Paradise (shut down because of Bar Sales)
1993: Utopia @ The Spot (shut down because of Bar Sales)
1995-1998: Utopia @ The Playhouse (shut down because I couldn’t afford to keep it going)
1999: Utopia @ an Afterhours (shut down because the owner turned out to be a racist)
2001: Utopia @ The Ecko Lounge (Combining Hip Hop, Reggae & House…….BAD IDEA)

At one point at the end of a dj set in 1998, I said “FUCK YOU HOUSE HEADS” because I had had enough of the drama. It was time to get paid like Puffy and Jay Z. So I left the house scene to go make money in the commercial market. I didn’t have to get involved with the community or be anyone’s friend. All I had to do was put a hot girl on the flyer, say we’re playing hip hop, reggae, r&b and people showed up in masses. The only problem was, I wasn’t happy. The music I was playing didn’t have any feeling…..at all. It was about grabbing someone and grinding on them all night. I don’t mind grinding every once in a while, but you gotta feel the music too….right?

So now I’m back. But this time, it’s for a different reason: MY HAPPINESS. I missed playing the music I love so much and this time, it’s not just house; it’s disco classics, it’s neo soul, it’s funk, it’s anything that makes you feel good inside. Maybe because I’m a little older now, I understand that it wasn’t about making money, it’s about being happy. Me and a friend, Brother Andre, started Utopia again on Sunday, July 18th at the OFFICE on 5 Broad St. in the financial district in downtown Boston. NO COVER! We didn’t care if 10 or a 100 people showed up as long as the
music, the vibe, the atmosphere, and the dj was on point. This time it’s a team effort and a goal to make Boston known as a city that loves house music. You see, before I thought I could do it alone…well you can’t. It’s all about A FAMILY. These are the people that for some strange reason wouldn’t let me leave the house scene. They're my inspiration and my family. You bastards.

This is how I feel about house. Imagine a brother coming home after working like a slave for the man. You look in the mail box and all you see are bills and credit card companies asking you to be in more debt. The IRS is telling you to pay up or lose your house. Your child hates you. Your wife is cheating on you with your kid brother, your mother hates you because you ain’t a doctor, and when you get in the shower you can’t see your willy pazing because of your gut. Right now you would want to commit suicide, but me, I throw on any record by BLAZE and everything is all right. YOU DIG! HOUSE MUSIC WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know what else to say but a local magazine did a story on me so check this out:
